Job Introduction
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Secretary to provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to our Consultants and clinical staff at our Rochdale Sexual Health Service!
In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Consultant and the clinical team to manage workloads, coordinate activities, and ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of services. Your ability to demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and proactive organisation will be essential as you navigate the dynamic needs of the team.
Please note that due to the nature of this role, it requires on-site presence and is not suitable for agile or remote working.
This is a part time position working 16 hours (2 days) across the week at our ORBISH Sexual Health Service based in Rochdale.
Main Responsibility
As a Medical Secretary your responsibilities will include:
- Provision of full secretarial service which includes typing letters, reports, non-clinical typing and recording minutes of meetings.
- Recording referrals, appointments and related information in a timely manner.
- Accurately transcribe all correspondence and reports by touch typing from audio dictation using knowledge of medical terminology.
- Undertake routine clerical duties distributing and dispatching mail, photocopying, responding to emails.
- Provide cover in the absence of other administrative staff answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries, taking messages and booking appointments.
- Support the Administration Manager in the day-to-day operational functions of the department.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate with significant experience in a Medical Secretary or Senior Administrator role. Previous experience in a health or social care setting is desired, experience in a sexual health clinic setting would be ideal.
We are also looking for someone who has:
- Good level of general education including GCSE English or equivalent qualification
- NVQ 4 qualification to diploma level or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience of interacting with service users.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Good IT skills and experience of using a range of systems/ IT applications.
