Wing Pharmacy Technician

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Wing Pharmacy Technician to join our wonderful team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at HMP Norwich, who is currently registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. We will provide full induction to the prison pharmacy system so you can easily transition from community or hospital background into the health and justice system. 

As the Wing Pharmacy Technician, you will work on a wing/ward environment where you will be responsible for the administration of medication to patients from secure medication hatches and the associated medication management activities, including audits and stock checks under the direction of the the Pharmacist Manager. 

The role will include every other weekend work with weekend enhancements 30% on Saturday 60% on Sunday greatly topping up the stated salary.

Main Responsibility

Once trained and confident, you will be expected to work autonomously within our standard operating procedures and: 

  • Undertake provision of a medicine’s administration service to the patients from secure medication hatches 
  • Provide, in conjunction with the appropriate Clinical practitioners, a wing technician medicine management service on allocated wings i.e. medication reconciliation 
  • Assist in the delivery of cost-effective prescribing, the medicines optimisation strategy and management of medication budgets 
  • Promote safe pharmacy practice within the prison including providing advice and training to patients and staff 

The Ideal Candidate

You will need to be Pharmacy Technician who is currently registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You will work 15 days every 4 weeks and shifts are between the hours of 7am and 6pm (10 hours shifts with 1 hour break). OT and weekend working enhancements apply if you wish to support the team in your spare time 

You will also need to be confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.
