Job Introduction

As a Dispensary Pharmacy Technician in the in-house HMP Norwich pharmacy your days will be rewarding and varied. Main responsibilities include labelling on ‘Pharmacy Manager’ system, dispensing, stock rotation, storage and dealing with dispensary queries. Once trained and confident you will support work on a wing/ward environment where you will be responsible for the administration of medication to patients (from a secure medication hatch )and the associated medication management activities, including audits and stock checks under the direction of the Pharmacist Manager.

Main Responsibility

Within this role, you will:  

  • Support efficient day to day running of the dispensary.
  • Data management ensuring the Patient Medication Records are accurate and up to date.
  • Liaising with various members of the Pharmacy team and ward staff when pharmacy related problems and ensuring the best service to patients.
  • Support and train student technicians, pre-registration pharmacists, summer placement and work experience students and any other relevant members of staff.
  • Stock management
  • Maintenance of correct Controlled Drug records
  • Maintenance of computer files for prisoner information and dispensary computer operations
  • Ensure that pharmaceuticals are transported to the prison gate and around the prison in a manner which maintains the integrity and security of the medicines whilst adhering to necessary safety precautions
  • Undertaking provision of a medicines administration service to the patients from a secure medication hatch
  • Assisting the Pharmacist Manager in the review of medicines related incidents
  • Providing regular medicines management services to wings including prescription re-ordering/management.

The Ideal Candidate

You will need to be Pharmacy Technician who is currently registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Community pharmacy experience is welcomed.

You will also need to be confident using IT systems (‘Pharmacy Manager’ and ‘SystmOne’)
