Job Introduction

As a Nursing Associate/ Practitioner, you will work collaboratively with Registered Nurses to provide and monitor the condition and health needs of patients within our care on a continuous basis. You will be resilient and join a dynamic team of passionate and talented individuals within a challenging yet rewarding environment providing most aspects of primary care.

You will be joining an experienced and innovative healthcare service within HMP Norwich, operating a practice-based clinical model delivering integrated primary care services such as managing and assisting with primary care clinics, dispensing medication to patients/prisoners and working in different areas of HMP Norwich when the need arises. We are a nurse-led healthcare service operating around the clock to provide effective care, looking after the physical health of around 700 individuals, supporting offenders to lead a healthier life when they return to their community.

Although the prison setting is complex and extraordinary at times, the wide variety of every-day clinical tasks and challenges provide vast opportunities to build on your experience and knowledge, fostering personal and professional growth and development. 

(Please note that, in any case, the healthcare staff will not be expected to be responsible for or involved with prisoners' restraints).

Main Responsibility

Within this role, you will:

  • Work under indirect supervision and work in partnership with the registered nurses to provide and deliver a high standard of nursing care
  • Safely undertake clinical procedures to meet patients’ needs within your professional remit
  • Monitor the condition and health needs of patients, ensuring appropriate escalation to a Registered Nurse when required
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with all patients
  • Comply with statutory and mandatory training in line with HCRG Care Group’s policy

The Ideal Candidate

You must possess a Nursing Associate Foundation Degree and have a diverse range of skills within a healthcare setting. In addition you should have the drive and ambition to develop your skills within areas such as medications dispensing, an interest in long term conditions and an overview of Substance Mis-use.

You will also need to be confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.
