Job Introduction
We are seeking an experienced Clinical HIV Pharmacist to become an integral part of our Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health Service.

We have recently been successful in securing a contract to deliver an Integrated Sexual Health Service, including an NHS England commissioned HIV treatment service across Coventry and Warwickshire. The service will commence on 1st April 2024.
The service encompasses the provision of integrated specialised sexual health services (Genitourinary Medicine, Contraception and Sexual Health services, National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP) and HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis), and delivery of the C-card (condom-distribution) scheme, with a particular focus on the use of IT to support access to, and delivery of, services.
Job Purpose:
As the Clinical HIV Pharmacist, you will play a vital role in our Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health service, working collaboratively with a dedicated team to deliver exceptional patient care. Your responsibilities will revolve around providing patient-centered pharmaceutical expertise, ensuring the optimal use of medications and adherence to BHIVA Standards 2018.
Operating across four hubs in Coventry, Leamington Spa, Nuneaton and Rugby, you will lead in delivering specialized pharmaceutical care within the Sexual Health service. Your role will be central to supporting patients with complex medical histories, requiring expertise in HIV pharmaceuticals and the ability to work autonomously within a supportive environment.
Main Responsibility
- Provide patient-centered pharmaceutical care within the HIV/Sexual Health service, adhering to BHIVA Standards 2018.
- Monitor patients for adverse effects and provide medication counselling and adherence support.
- Conduct medication reviews including reviews for complex regimens.
- Monitor HIV/Sexual Health and Infectious Diseases (ID) prescribing according to service and national guidelines.
- Act autonomously and intuitively, ensuring the continuity and coordination of care.
- Liaise with healthcare professionals, serving as a patient advocate and ensuring the procurement, supply and documentation of high-cost, unlicensed, and named-patient drugs.
- Participate in MDT meetings, contributing to decision-making processes for individual patients.
- Effectively communicate to patients, carers, and relevant healthcare professionals to ensure complex issues are understood both in written and verbal forms.

The Ideal Candidate
This role will require travel across the four service hubs making a Driving License and Car a necessary requirement for this role.
- MPharm or Equivalent Pharmacy degree and registration with GPhC.
- A Member of the BHIVA and HIVPA.
- Demonstrable experience in HIV pharmaceuticals and Sexual Health.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Comprehensive understanding of relevant standards and legislation.
- Experience with High-cost drugs
- A proactive and adaptive approach to patient care and service development.
