Job Introduction
Join our friendly and forward-thinking Sexual Health service as a Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine, based at our Loughborough Sexual Health Hub. You will play a key role in delivering high quality Level 3 STI care while shaping the future of our service for communities across Leicestershire and Rutland.
You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team that includes Consultants, Specialty Doctors, nurses, trainees and wider clinical colleagues. Your expertise will support the management of complex sexually transmitted infections, HIV pathways, PEPSE and PrEP provision, and the development of clinical governance and training across the service.Loughborough is a great place to work, with the hub located close to independent coffee shops, gyms, bakeries, and green outdoor spaces.
Pinfold Gate is just a short walk from the town centre, giving you easy access to places like Café 63, Public & Plants, Loughborough Leisure Centre, and Queen’s Park for a lunchtime break.
This role is a part time (4 PA’s) Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine with responsibility for the Genitourinary provision in Leicestershire and Rutland based in Loughborough Sexual Health Hub. The line manager for this role is the Service Manager. There is no current call provision within the service.
Main Responsibilities
- Diagnosing and managing sexually transmitted infections, including complex conditions
- Leading the GUM MDT meeting and working closely with the wider MDT
- Providing expert clinical opinions and second line support to doctors, nurses and trainees
- Supporting HIV prevention and management, including PEPSE, PrEP and new diagnoses
- Participating in clinical governance, audit, CME and meeting annual CPD requirements
- Contributing to service development, pathway redesign and quality improvement
- Ensuring compliance with national standards including BASHH, FSRH and NICE
- Managing clinical risks, incidents and maintaining evidence based practice
- Providing safeguarding support for vulnerable adults and young people
- Supervising and training Specialty Doctors, GP trainees, Foundation Doctors and nursing teams
- Delivering formal and informal teaching and contributing to STIF training programmes
- Supporting and contributing to research, innovation and service evaluation

Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Extensive experience in diagnosing and managing sexually transmitted infections
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Experience motivating and supporting multi-disciplinary teams
- Ability to prioritise, delegate and supervise as required
- Experience in audit, governance and evidence-based clinical practice
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Inclusion on the GMC specialist register for Genitourinary Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT)
- Experience delivering clinical education or training
- Ability to use clinical IT systems
- Willingness to work flexibly and travel when required
Desirable
- Diplomas in HIV, GUM or DFSRH
- Previous NHS experience in sexual health
- Higher qualifications such as MSc, MD or PhD
- Experience in contraception or reproductive health
- Teaching qualifications (e.g. STIF trainer, GMC trainer status)
- Competence in sub-dermal implants and intrauterine techniques
- Research experience or publications
