Community Phlebotomist - Grade 3
Malmesbury Community Team
22.5 Hours Per Week – Permanent
The Malmesbury and Royal Wootton Bassett Community Team is looking for a Phlebotomist to deliver a high standard of quality care to patients within the community setting. You will work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team, linking closely with the GP Practices and other community services in the local areas. We work with the aim of preventing unnecessary admissions to hospital and in assisting people to manage their conditions in their own homes.
The Malmesbury Community Team is split into three clusters (Malmesbury/Sherston, Purton/Cricklade and Royal Wootton Bassett) and we are a multidisciplinary team including Nurses, Therapists, Clinical Leads, Care Coordinators and other staff.
The team is based in the Malmesbury Primary Care Centre and the successful candidate will work ideally over 5 weekdays from 8:30-1pm.
We are looking for a caring, motivated and friendly individual to join our busy, professional and dynamic team. You should possess commitment to interdisciplinary team working and want to deliver excellent standards of care.
The post holder will assist and support other members of the team in giving care / undertaking phlebotomy to patients within a designated area, under the supervision of a qualified nurse in a very supportive environment.
There is also an opportunity to develop additional skills within the HCSW job description and expand your knowledge to be able to perform other clinical tasks.

Main Responsibility
This post is responsible for
• Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample(s)
• Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
• Maintaining accurate patient records
• The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples.
• Resolve any discrepancies
• Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner.
• Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff
• Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
• Ensure effective sensitive communication and reassurance during the phlebotomy procedure.
• Participate in practice audit and or service development
• Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
• Support and participate in shared learning within the community team.
• Maintaining timely and accurate record keeping and where appropriate, in accordance with professional guidelines
• Only using email accounts authorised by us. These should be used in accordance with the Sending and Transferring Information Securely Procedures and Acceptable Use Policies.
• Reporting information governance incidents and near misses on CIRIS or to the appropriate person e.g. line manager, Head of Information Governance, Information Security Lead
• Adherence to the clear desk/screen policy
• Only using approved equipment for conducting business
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
• Venepuncture competency certificate
• Good standard of general education
• Experience of working with the general public
• Experience of working in a healthcare setting
• Experience of working in the community.
• Experience in venepuncture
• Facilitate routine BP monitoring and clinical observations.
• Ability to record accurate clinical notes on SystmOne
• Can demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Experience of customer care skills.
