As the Named Nurse for Safeguarding, you will be an integral part of the organisation’s Safeguarding Team and accountable within the managerial framework of the Lancashire 0–19 Public Health Nursing Service. You will support the Safeguarding Lead in ensuring that the organisation meets all contractual and statutory safeguarding responsibilities, working collaboratively with partner agencies and the wider safeguarding network across HCRG Care Group.
You will provide leadership and management to the Safeguarding Specialist Nurses, supporting their professional development, delegating work appropriately, and offering high‑quality supervision. You will also deputise for the Safeguarding Lead when required and contribute to both the children’s and adults’ safeguarding agendas across the organisation.
What you'll do:
- Support the Safeguarding Lead to ensure the organisation meets its responsibilities in safeguarding children, young people, and adults with care and support needs.
- Deputise for the Safeguarding Lead when required.
- Work collaboratively as a core member of the Safeguarding Team.
- Provide leadership, management, and supervision to Safeguarding Specialist Nurses.
- Support and facilitate the ongoing professional development of the Specialist Safeguarding Nursing team.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the wider safeguarding agenda across HCRG Care Group.
- Build strong partnerships with internal teams, external agencies, and multi‑agency safeguarding partners.
- Produce high‑quality written reports, reviews, and safeguarding documentation as required.
You will thrive in this role if you are / have:
Essential Education & Qualifications
- Registered on Part 1 of the NMC register as a Registered Children’s Nurse and/or Registered Adult Nurse.
- Registered on Part 3 of the NMC register as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, with a programme focused on children and families.
- Completed post‑registration safeguarding or looked‑after‑children training (including law, policy, and practice at Level 2 or PGDip or equivalent).
Essential Skills & Abilities
- Excellent IT literacy and confident use of digital systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent literacy, analytical, and report‑writing abilities.
- Able to work effectively with children, young people, and adults.
- Ability to travel across the locality as required.
Essential Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in healthcare roles relating to babies, children, young people, and safeguarding/children in care.
- Experience working as a Safeguarding Specialist Nurse within a safeguarding team.
- Proven experience producing detailed and comprehensive reports and reviews.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively across multi‑agency and organisational boundaries.
Knowledge & Understanding
- Thorough understanding of safeguarding legislation for children, young people, and adults, including the Mental Capacity Act.
- Understanding of the complex health needs of adults, children, and looked‑after children.
- Awareness of confidentiality principles, information‑sharing legislation, and best practice.
- Good understanding of health promotion and public health practice.
