As a Specialist Safeguarding Nurse, you will play a key role in supporting the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children within the Lancashire 0–19 Public Health Nursing Service. You will help develop and embed an integrated approach to safeguarding children and young people, ensuring our practitioners are confident, supported, and delivering safe, evidence‑based care.
You will be a source of expert advice and specialist knowledge for health professionals, working in alignment with key statutory and regulatory frameworks.
You will collaborate closely with the Named Nurse, service managers, and senior leaders, supporting clear communication, driving excellence in safeguarding practice, and ensuring organisational compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
A key part of your role will be identifying training needs, developing and delivering high‑quality safeguarding/child protection training across the organisation and with partner agencies. You will also promote effective clinical management of vulnerable families and support practitioners through safeguarding supervision.
What you'll do:
- Support the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children in delivering an integrated safeguarding approach across the 0–19 service.
- Provide specialist safeguarding knowledge, guidance, and advice to health professionals.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate safeguarding and child protection training across HCRG Care Group and with partner organisations.
- Maintain strong communication with Named Nurses, senior management, and service managers.
- Promote effective safeguarding practice and ensure high‑quality evidence‑based clinical management of families with additional needs.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of organisational safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Support and deliver safeguarding supervision to practitioners.
- Continually champion best practice and contribute to interagency partnership working.
You will thrive in this role if you are / have:
Essential Education & Qualifications
- Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with community experience.
- Educated to Master’s level or equivalent professional qualification/experiential learning.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Safeguarding Children Training Level 3.
Essential Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of national and local safeguarding strategies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Ability to form effective advisory and facilitative working relationships.
- Experience of working across organisational boundaries.
Essential Experience
- Significant experience as a Community Health Practitioner working with child protection cases.
- Minimum 5 years post‑registration experience, including at least 3 years at Band 6 or above.
- Extensive experience managing complex child protection cases and assessing vulnerable families.
- Experience attending case conferences and strategy meetings.
- Experience providing or receiving clinical supervision and a sound understanding of supervision principles.
- Experience working collaboratively with external agencies, multi‑agency partners, and voluntary sector organisations.
