Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist for dysphagia and complex needs

Job Introduction

As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in Complex Needs and Dysphagia you will provide specialist assessment and management of children and young people with dysphagia and preschool aged children with complex communication needs. The role will involve delivery of universal, targeted and specialist levels of intervention to support children, young people and their families to promote the development of children's communication skills to facilitate participation in daily life and to reach their full potential. This role will involve supporting preschool children and their families with the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

Main Responsibility

You will hold a caseload of children and young people with feeding and swallowing difficulties and have a key role in the provision of dysphagia services into local special educational provisions, under the guidance of the Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. You will be involved in developing and delivering targeted training packages to families and other professionals regarding supporting children and young people with feeding and swallowing difficulties and complex communication needs. You will work closely within the wider Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service including the Community Nursing Team, the Healthy Family Team, Paediatric Community Dietican Service, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services and Community Paediatricians as well as external colleagues and partners in Health, Education and Social Care.  

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree and HCPC Registration. 

You will have specialist knowledge in communication and swallowing disorders, underpinned by current evidence-based practice. You will also have a wide range of excellent clinical reasoning, assessment and treatment skills and be able to give advice, problem solve and make decisions.
