Job Introduction
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Sexual Health Nurse to join our Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health Service.
You will work within our Sexual Health service, where the aim is to provide high quality nursing care for patients attending the service. You will be delivering integrated sexual health provision to clients of all ages and from a diverse range of cultural and social backgrounds. You will be working closely with key team members to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of clinical sessions.

We have recently been successful in securing a contract to deliver an Integrated Sexual Health Service, including an NHS England commissioned HIV treatment service across Coventry and Warwickshire. The service will commence on 1st April 2024.
The service encompasses the provision of integrated specialised sexual health services and delivery of the C-card scheme, with a particular focus on the use of IT to support access to, and delivery of, services. Our service is confidential, non-judgemental and for people of all ages, genders, and orientations.
This post is based at our Leamington Spa Base but travel across all four of our sites (Coventry, Leamington Spa, Nuneaton and Rugby) may be required. As a result, a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes is required.
Main Responsibility
As a Band 6 Nurse your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high quality integrated sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRH) and genito-urinary medicine (GUM)
- Providing a safe, friendly, non-judgmental and confidential service.
- Accessing client’s contraceptive and safer sexual health needs to provide individualised care.
- Providing relevant teaching around STIs and demonstration regarding contraception.
- Providing relevant tests/screening, including microscopy, and treatments for sexually transmitted infections including HIV testing, Chlamydia Screening and immunisation for high-risk groups.
- Arranging appropriate referrals and liaising with statutory and voluntary agencies for patients identified as having social / emotional problems.
- Keeping accurate records of clinical activity.
- Maintaining, updating, and developing personal and professional knowledge.
- Supervising junior staff and take responsibility for orientation, supervision and the training of learners, HCA’s, support workers.
- Reporting all accidents, complaints or untoward incident to relevant staff.
- Maintaining standards of care in the department by example and direction.
- Keeping up to date with any relevant training and promote reflective practice.

The Ideal Candidate
As this role may require travel over our four sites, it is essential that you have a valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- A Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
- Experience of working in an Integrated Sexual Health Service
- Relevant Contraception / GUM qualification
- Ability to work in a warm, sensitive, non-judgmental manner within an equal opportunity framework
- Ability to relate to service users and hard to reach and excluded groups
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to organise own time, keep good medical records and support systems monitoring clinic activity and performance
- Extensive knowledge of sexual health needs of the population and related issues
- Understanding of the law and guidance relating to advice and treatment to under 16s
- At least one years’ experience of working in sexual health services (Contraception and/or GUM)
