Job Introduction
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Band 5 Sexual Health Nurse to join our Chester and West Chester Sexual Health Service. This is a part time, 12-month fixed term role for 23 hours a week, which offers a unique opportunity to provide free, confidential sexual health services to the local community across Cheshire West and Chester Council.
As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work to triage and support Sexual Health, Contraception and HIV positive patients and coordinate care pathways with liaison across organisational boundaries. You will promote Sexual Health and HIV education and offer advice and empathy with patients.
We welcome applicants with a background in Sexual Health, Midwifery, or General Practice. While experience and competencies in contraception are advantageous, we are able to provide training and support to develop these skills.
Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as the role requires travel to spoke clinics across the counties.
Main Responsibilities
As a Band 5 Sexual Health Nurse you will:
- Provides a professional non-judgemental, confidential approach to patient care.
- Assess all patients under the age of 18 years old using HCRG vulnerability/spotting the signs toolkits and follows HCRG safeguarding policy, if safeguarding concern identified.
- Takes responsibility for own continuing professional development and maintaining of competencies.
- Provides patients with inform choice to enable them to consent to care.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and provides follow up care for asymptomatic and symptomatic patients, and those with complex sexual health needs including GBMSM (gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men).
- Assesses and provides care for patients attending for initiation and continuation of PREP.
- Assess and provides care for patients attending for emergency contraception.
- Competent in Venepuncture.
- Provides cytology (once training completed).
- Microscopy
- HIV promotion, offering PREP, PEPSE, appropriate vaccination, to those who meet criteria. Discussing importance of condom usage and window periods in relation to sexual health screening.
- Within 2 years of commencement of post must have completed, STIF Gateway competencies.
- Supervises new colleagues, medical and nursing students.

Ideal Candidate
- Registered Nurse with NMC registration
- Experience in General Practice, Sexual Health or Midwifery (desirable)
- A newly qualified RGN or a Band 5 with experience in any field
- Experience working with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Experience working with Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- STIF Foundation is desirable
- Experience with Risk Management processes
- IT and clinical systems experience
- Knowledge of Patient record systems
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills both verbally and in writing
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
