Band 5 Children's Occupational Therapist

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and supportive West Essex Integrated Therapies Team covering Uttlesford, Harlow and Epping Forest. We offer a high level of support for our Band 5 Therapists and will ensure you are able to continue and develop your skills and knowledge with regular supervision, support and guidance.

You will join our award winning Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service, where we are trail blazing a new integrated partnership model with Barnardo’s; a model that drives efficiencies so we can put more people in our services, spending time with children and families to improve health outcomes in the local community.

Main Responsibility

As an Occupational Therapist you will offer support to children and young people, their families and other service users.

You will work closely with colleagues in our Pre-Birth to 19 years team and our Specialist Children’s Services, including our innovative JADES (Autism assessment and early support) pathway.

You will also work with other partners in Health, Education and Social Care to to allow children to participate in daily life and inspire them to reach their full potential.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Occupational Therapy Team’s specialist intervention through management of a small caseload that would include: completion of individual assessments, school visits, report writing and development of home programmes.
  • Working alongside the Band 6 and Band 7 Occupational Therapists within specialist provision settings, to assess, review and order specialist equipment to support children’s function and provide interventions within the school setting. 
  • Co-facilitating targeted parent education workshops to families of children who have been referred to the Occupational Therapy Team
  • Co-facilitating targeted school education workshops around sensory processing and gross and fine motor skill development.
  • Facilitating targeted Occupational Therapy group sessions at different sites across West Essex to support the development of children’s skills and function.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a Degree or post graduate degree level qualification in Occupational Therapy.

You will also be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council and Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

You will have access to regular clinical supervision and ongoing continued professional development including external clinical networks. 

You will be part of team who recognises and celebrates clinical excellence steered by evidence-based practice.
