Job Introduction

We are delighted to offer an opportunity to join the Consultant team working at Oldham Sexual Health. Oldham Sexual Health is seeking a part time 24 hour per week Consultant in Genito Urinary Medicine.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate to support delivery of a high quality, innovative, integrated sexual health model of care for the population of Oldham served by Oldham, Rochdale and Bury Integrated Sexual Health.

The post covers one site in Oldham and is supported by a second Consultant Sexual and Reproductive Health. Office accommodation will be located within department. Secretarial support will be provided by a medical secretary and other administrative staff .

As a GUM Consultant your days will be rewarding and diverse, you will be working within a team of nurses, health care assistants, GPSI and Consultants to provide a prevention focused, integrated sexual health service that meets the needs of the local population.

You will have to be GMC registered, have a specialty register in either; Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Genitourinary Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT date) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).  You will also need to be able to demonstrate commitment and ability to teach and train clinical staff and nursing students. 
 

Main Responsibility

The Consultant will be based at the Level 3 service Oldham Sexual Health located in Central Oldham. You will be working with an experienced multidisciplinary team to deliver Level 3 integrated sexual healthcare including HIV in our busy open access clinics. There will be opportunity for specialist clinics depending on areas of clinical expertise and to contribute to additional roles in the department. Dual training in contraception to DFSRH level is an advantage.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications & Training

  • Fully registered with GMC.
  • Must be on the GMC's Specialist Register for Genito-Urinary Medicine or Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Sexual and Reproductive Health) or Community Sexual and Reproductive Health [or a Specialist Registrar not yet enrolled must provide documentary evidence that they will be have completed relevant CCT within six months].
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or Membership of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health (MFSRH) Or Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists ( MRCOG)
  • Diploma in HIV Medicine
  • Diploma in G-U Medicine
  • Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health (DFSRH)

Desirable

  • Letter of Competence in Sub-Dermal Implants (LoC SDI)
  • Additional Postgraduate qualifications, e.g., MD, MSc, MFPHM, PGA Med Ed
  • Letter of Competence in Intrauterine Techniques (LoC IUT)

 

Experience

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Genito-urinary medicine and HIV
  • Experience of managing complex STIs
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering level 3 sexual health service without direct supervision

 

Clinical Knowledge and skills

  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on full range of sexual health issues in male and female patients and take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients where appropriate.
  • Ability to problem solve and identify a solution(s) using combination literature, personal experience and information gained from peers
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team during an integrated level 3 Sexual Health clinical session
