As a Speech and Language Therapist, you’ll be working as part of HCRG Care Group, Bath where we deliver Speech and Language Therapy Services to all adults over 18 years of age with a communication or swallowing difficulty.

This role will be integrated across physical and mental health care services, provided by HCRG Care Group and the Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES) Therapies Team within the AWP NHS Trust.  This provides an opportunity to provide Speech and Language Therapy across a diverse population, and develop a specialism within Mental Health services.

Services are offered across the community and some inpatient work in our community hospitals.

Main Responsibility

Your key responsibilities as a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist will be:

  • Triaging, assessing and treating adults referred into the service for difficulties with their communication or swallowing. 
  • You will provide advice, education and support to service users, their carers, family memebers and other staff, in order to promote a good understanding of the person's condition and how to support them, with a view to allowing the person to be able to self-manage their concerns as indpendently as possible. 
  • You will be jointly responsible for quality improvment and transformation projects and tasks within the teams, and support more junior members of the team and student Speech and Language Therapists. 
  • You will act in a consultative capacity with the AWP team, ensuring good communication across the services and promoting Speech and Language Therapy in mental health.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a relevant degree in Speech and Language Therapy, evidence of post registration dysphagia competence and a current and active registration with HCPC and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy. You will have a number of years experience working with adults who have progressive neurological disorders, stroke and / or mental health conditions. You will have have experience of working in MDTs, of working independently and holding your own caseload. You may have experience of VFS referral and interpretation. 

We have built organisation-wide committees in many specialist fields. You’ll have the option to join your clinical specialism, networking with professionals from across the country. We get together regularly, auditing and sharing standard methodology for innovation and service re-design. You’ll be a part of the pool of subject matter experts bringing together clinical and operational leads. You will be a part of quality improvements, research and development activity. You will also need to be confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.
